Dear NERSC users, Below are some upcoming training events that you are encouraged to attend: 1) ALCF AI Training Series: Intro to AI-driven Science on Supercomputers, February - March 2024 (Registrations due Jan 15) Argonne Leadership Computing Facility (ALCF) is hosting an 8-week hands-on training series that will teach attendees to use leading-edge supercomputers to develop and apply AI solutions to the world’s most challenging problems. The training will focus on understanding the fundamentals of large-language models (LLMs) and their scientific applications. Participants who complete all hands-on materials for the course will receive a certificate of completion and a digital badge. For more information and to register to attend, please see https://www.nersc.gov/alcf-ai-training-series-intro-2024. *Registrations are due Jan 15.* 2) E3SM Tutorial Workshop May 7-10, 2024 (Applications due Jan 31) Energy Exascale Earth System model (E3SM) <https://e3sm.org/> is a state-of-the-science Earth system model development and simulation project to investigate energy-relevant science using code optimized for DOE's advanced computers. The E3SM project, supported by the US Department of Energy's (DOE's) Biological and Environmental Research (BER) Earth and Environmental Systems Sciences Division (EESSD) and Earth System Model Development (ESMD) programs will hold its first *in-person tutorial workshop at NERSC, May 7-10, 2024.* The tutorial will include - Lectures on earth system simulation and the model components of E3SM. - Practical sessions on running E3SM, modifying components, and analyzing data. - Best practices for utilizing the model and potentially contributing to its development. This workshop is designed for new users engaged in currently funded BER's EESSD projects, and other related DOE projects. We particularly encourage participation by graduate students, post-docs, and early career staff. For more information and to apply, please see https://www.nersc.gov/e3sm-tutorial-workshop-may2024/. Applications are due January 31, 2024. 3) International HPC Summer School 2024, July 7-12, 2024 (Applications due Jan 31) Are you a graduate student or postdoctoral scholar from an institution in Canada, Europe, Japan, Australia, or the United States who is interested in learning more about computational sciences with major state-of-the-art aspects of HPC and Big Data Analytics for a variety of scientific disciplines, advancing the formation of professional networks, being provided with advanced mentoring, facilitating international exchange and opening up further career options? If so, consider applying to attend the International HPC Summer School, to be held July 7-12, 2024 in Kobe, Japan. School fees, meals, housing, and reasonable flight costs will be covered. For more information and to apply, please see https://www.nersc.gov/international-hpc-summer-school-july-2024/. Applications are due January 31, 2024. 4) Argonne Training Program on Extreme-Scale Computing (ATPESC), July 28 - August 9, 2024 (Applications due Feb 28)The annual Argonne Training Program on Extreme-Scale Computing (ATPESC) provides intensive, two-week training on the key skills, approaches, and tools to design, implement, and execute computational science and engineering applications on current high-end computing systems and the leadership-class computing systems of the future. Doctoral students, postdocs, and computational scientists are encouraged to apply for the program. Renowned scientists and leading HPC experts will serve as lecturers and guide the hands-on training sessions. ATPESC participants will have access to DOE’s leadership-class systems at the ALCF, OLCF, and NERSC. The core curriculum will cover: - Computer architectures - Numerical algorithms and mathematical software - Software productivity and sustainability - Data analysis, visualization, I/O, and methodologies for big data applications - Performance measurement and debugging tools - Machine learning and data science This year's program will be held July 28 - August 9 in the Chicago area. There is no cost to attend. Domestic airfare, meals, and lodging are provided. For more information and to apply, please see https://extremecomputingtraining.anl.gov/. *Applications are due February 28, 2024*.
