Dear NERSC users: We would like to invite you to try out the CPU-only nodes <https://docs.nersc.gov/systems/perlmutter/system_details/#cpu-only-nodes> on Perlmutter. Currently there are approximately 1,500 nodes available to users and usage is not charged to your account. These nodes are similar to the CPU nodes on Cori but have superior performance (our early tests show about 3X+ the Cori Haswell node performance on average) and more memory (512 GB). The currently available CPU-only nodes on Perlmutter have about twice the capability of the full Cori Haswell partition due to their greater performance characteristics. In June Perlmutter CPU had about one fourth the number of users and the average job had less than half the wait time in the queues compared to Cori’s Haswell nodes. For more information on using the Perlmutter CPU nodes, please see the documentation pages on compiling <https://docs.nersc.gov/development/compilers/> and running jobs <https://docs.nersc.gov/systems/perlmutter/running-jobs/>.
